A bill that would ban anyone under age 16 from using a tanning bed is closer to becoming state law.
The proposal would also require parental permission for anyone between the ages of 16 and 18. Parents would be asked to sign a "warning statement" acknowledging the risk of tanning beds.
The bill passed the full Senate unanimously on Wednesday. It's scheduled to go before the full House next week.
Under current Tennessee law, even children under 14 can use a tanning bed if they're accompanied by a parent who signs a warning statement.
