Dandridge singer talks making it onto Team Kelly on 'The Voice'

Kelly Clarkson turned her chair first, but Sara Collins said she didn't notice right away and freaked out when she finally saw the pop singer looking at her.

A Dandridge singer got the chance of a lifetime last week on "The Voice."

Sara Collins, 18, turned two chairs during her blind audition with her performance of "Johnny & June" by Heidi Newfield and joined Team Kelly.

"I think it'll always be surreal because it's such a special experience to have this jacket and keep it forever," Collins said showing off her blue and gold Team Kelly jacket.

Originally from Baton Rouge, La., she moved to Dandridge with her family last May. She said she has been singing professionally since she was 12 years old.

"It started in a little restaurant and it's gone uphill ever since," Collins said.

Collins said her family has been watching "The Voice" since day one and her dad always told her that she would be on the show.

"I was always, 'Not me, not me' but I did. I made it," Collins said.

She said she was nervous standing backstage before her blind audition in front of the judges and willing herself to remember the words

"I got out there, and there was a couple seconds of silence and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, this is really about to happen,'" Collins said. "Being up there in that moment was so thrilling."

Kelly Clarkson turned her chair first, but Collins said she didn't notice right away and freaked out when she finally saw the pop singer looking at her.

Nick Jonas turned his chair next. Collins said she had hoped country singer Blake Shelton would turn his chair since she has performed at his Ole Red restaurant, but there are no hard feelings.

Collins has taped several shows and said Clarkson is an angel.

"She's just as you would think she would be and just how she appears on TV," Collins said. "She's just the most amazing, vibrant person."

She said living on the West Coast is very different from her southern upbringing and she actually misses the humidity.
