Thursday, September 20
The Knoxville Children’s Theatre is performing Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids September 21 through October 7. The play is performed by 21 talented young actors. Tickets are $10-$12.
The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra opens its 83rd season with Johannes Brahms and Sergei Rachmaninoff. The symphony is performing Thursday and Friday night at the Tennessee Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, September 21
Bring your blanket or lawn chair downtown for the Knox County Public Library’s Movies on Market Square series. Every Friday from September 14 through October 19, the square will transform into an outdoor movie theater. This week the movie Clueless is playing.
Relive the Vols’ 1998 game against Florida by watching it on the big screen. The game will be broadcasted at World’s Fair Park on Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event is free, but a $5 donation to KARM Ministries is suggested.
Zoo Knoxville is hosting its first-ever Brew at the Zoo on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sip beers from over 40 craft breweries while visiting the animal exhibits and listening to live music. The Event starts at 6 p.m., and tickets range from $50 to $100.
Experience cultures from around the world without ever leaving Knoxville. The International House’s International Festival is Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pedestrian Walkway in the center of campus at the University of Tennessee. Visit food booths manned by students in various cultural student associations to taste different delicacies or see artifacts.
You might notice a few parking spaces around Gay Street on Friday have transformed into mini pop-up parks. It’s part of PARK(ing) Day, an event intended to generate discussion about how public space is created and allocated. The temporary parks will be set up between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday.
Ijams Nature Center looks completely different after dark, which is why the park is hosting a full moon paddle on Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Paddle along the Tennessee River while listening to the nocturnal sights and sounds of the wilderness. The fee is $20 per person.
Get ready for game day with a Rocky Top rooftop party at the Lindsay Young Downtown YMCA on Friday. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m. and your $30 admission covers food and drinks. Proceeds benefit the YMCA of East Tennessee’s annual campaign.
Saturday, September 22
The Vols take on the Florida Gators at home this weekend. The football game starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday and airs on ESPN.
Help clean up Norris Lake on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help clean up debris and trash along the shoreline and roads. Lunch is provided. The clean begins at the Lone Mountain Shores in Claiborne County.
The Blount County Public Library is hosting a special sensory viewing of “The Hobbit” animated movie on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The lights will be on and there will be LEGOs and crafts for kids to play with while they watch the movie.
Heritage Day is Saturday at The Old Mill Square in Pigeon Forge. Appalachian history and craft experts will teach about daily pioneer life. You can also take a free guided tour of the historic mill.
The Historic Mabry-Hazen House will open its doors free of change on Saturday to anyone who brings a free downloadable Museum Day ticket. Museum Day is organized by the Smithsonian and other museums to boost accessibility to institutes of learning. The Museum of East Tennessee History is also participating in the event by offering free admission.
The annual Morristown Airport Fly-in is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s free to tour the aircraft and cars on display. There will also be $25 helicopter and airplane rides available.
Sunday, September 23
The University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra is performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 on Sunday. This free concert begins at 4 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Building on campus.
The Rollin on Rocky Top 5K is Sunday at 4 p.m. The inclusion-inspired race raises money for Ainsley’s Angels and is open to athletes of all abilities. The race begins at Tyson Park.
Last Days of Autumn Brewing is serving up a good ole’ Gator Hater Shrimp Boil on Saturday to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. The event costs $10 and includes all you can eat shrimp, drink specials, and giveaways. The game will be broadcasted on TV. The event lasts from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.
