Girls Fire Camp this weekend teaches real firefighting skills

Firefighting is an exciting career that requires special training, a heart to serve, and courage

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Rural Metro Fire Girls Fire Camp is a free program set up to introduce women, ages 13 and up, to careers in the fire service. 

Women firefighters will assist and mentor future academy applicants.

Participants will put on full firefighter gear, use tools, deploy a fire hose, and climb a tower with a hotel pack. A propane tank fire and a car fire are part of the weekend event. 

Firefighter Brooke Bratta said they will also learn confidence and courage.

Girls Fire Camp is from 8:00 to 4:00 on Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30, at the Rural Metro Training Center at 10410 Gallows Point Drive in West Knox County.
