KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Powell High School singing group is getting national recognition.

The Brickyard Quartet qualified 4th for the Next Generation Barbershop competition in Nashville.The mid-winter convention takes place from Jan. 22-27 at the Grand Ole Opry.

Powell seniors Hayden Rupert, Wyatt McCarter, Turner Bell and newest member sophomore Jordan Cagle make up the quartet.

The quartet has been together for about two years, saying barbershop singing is very camaraderie-driven.

"It's a very precise style, and I think that's helped me a lot. It's definitely been a big growing experience," McCarter said. "I think it really brings you close together. It's just a fun style to sing," he said.
