Man finds out his ex-girlfriend faked a rejection letter and lost him a $200,000 scholarship

Eric Abramovitz never received the e-mail that could have changed his life, because his ex-girlfriend deleted it.

And you thought your ex was crazy. In 2013, McGill University music student Eric Abramovitz applied for a two-year scholarship to finish his degree at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. Abramovitz was a top-ranked clarinetist who had studied with several elite teachers and performed at prestigious locales. The scholarship, which including several pre-screening interviews and various auditions, would basically guarantee him a successful chance to become a professional musician.

After a whirlwind application and audition process, Colburn Conservatory sent Abramovitz an e-mail saying he had been accepted with the full scholarship including: tuition, room and board, money for meals and other expenses. However, he never saw that e-mail. Jennifer Lee, Abramovitz's girlfriend and fellow music student, used his laptop and saw the e-mail - but never showed it to him. Lee deleted the scholarship e-mail and sent the Colburn Conservatory of Music an email, pretending to be Abramovitz, refusing the offer.

A year later, Abramovitz was auditioning before one of the teachers at Colburn and asked, "Why did you reject me?" Abramovitz forwarded the rejection e-mail and the teacher responded saying he had never sent that. After some intense snooping in 2015, Abramovitz successfully found the fake e-mails and linked the account back to her.

After Abramovitz learned of the deception, he sued for $300,000 in general damages, "including for loss of reputation, loss of educational opportunity and loss of two years of income potential." This Wednesday, The Supreme Court of Ontario ruled in his favor and even added an extra $50,000 against Lee for her "despicable actions" against his career. Jennifer Lee never responded to the court claim against her, and never filed a notice of intent to defend. Abramovitz says he may never collect his damages as he does not know where she is and she has blocked him on all social media.
