The wheels on the C-SPAN bus to go round and round Knoxville

The bus will visit students at Fulton High School and the University of Tennessee on January 17th and Central High School on January 18th as a part of its "Southern Swing" tour.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — C-SPAN is putting a new spin on the political process and bringing it to Knoxville.

The C-SPAN bus is currently on a "Southern Swing" tour, traveling for eight weeks through Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Since 1993, a C-SPAN bus has traveled across the nation visiting schools and community events.

"Earlier this week we were in Clarksville, Murfreesboro and now Knoxville," said C-SPAN spokesperson Jenae Green. "We're excited to meet students and staff here."

Aboard the bus, visitors will find 11 large-screen tablets featuring C-SPAN programming, a smart TV, a high-definition TV production studio, and a D.C-themed selfie station.

"There's several quizzes that you can take on the tablets when you enter the bus," said Green. "It tests your knowledge on the different branches of our government."

Visitors on the bus will learn about C-SPAN's coverage of the American political process through interactive kiosks and demonstrations. During the tour, visitors can also share their thoughts on what it means to be an American for C-SPAN's "Voices from the Road" project.

"Our goal is to help young people get engaged and we want to hear what they think," said Green. "These kids are our future."

The bus will visit students at Fulton High School and the University of Tennessee on Jan. 17 and Central High School on Jan. 18 from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

It was supposed to be at Bearden High school Friday but the event was canceled and moved to Central.
