Heart of the Matter: KPD Chief Paul Noel

In a 42-minute interview, Knoxville Police Department Chief Paul Noel talks about the opioid crisis, gun violence, culture at KPD and life in Knoxville.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — In this ever-changing world of social media and an overload of information at your fingertips, life is often boiled down to just one quote. We want to change that with our new series Heart of the Matter with Abby Ham.

Each month we sit down with a local newsmaker and spend time diving into real topics with real answers, unedited and unfiltered.

Noel, a veteran New Orleans police officer and administrator, left the Big Easy to become Knoxville's 27th Chief of Police in 2022.

Noel is now entering his second year on the job. Abby asks Noel a range of questions—from the opioid crisis to gun violence to school safety to the Lisa Edward's case

You can watch the full interview at the top of this article or on WBIR's Youtube channel.

Next month, Abby will sit down with Knox County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jon Rysewyk about what has been a very interesting first year on the job.
