Weaving with a Purpose

Student weaving projects will be featured at Farragut Intermediate School as auctioned off to help a Knoxville-based charity.

Some students have been working on art projects all year to auction off Thursday night. Weaving with a Purpose supports a local charity called Homes of Love.

Farragut Intermediate School will host 'Special Area Night' from 5:00 to 7:30 tonight.

Students have been working on a philanthropic art project called Weaving with a Purpose.

At the beginning of the year, they learned how to weave on a big standing loom. They also learned about philanthropic artists who use their art to help others. Throughout the year they have been working on a big loom together creating different wall hangings and weavings.

It is one of the featured projects Thursday night. Special Area Night also includes a music performance, activities in the gym, tech lab, and library and food trucks.

A silent auction of all of the weavings and other collaborative projects they've been working on this year will raise money for Homes of Love, a Knoxville based organization that helps create families in Southeast Asia and Africa.

The students chose the organization they wanted to help and are very excited about this yearlong project.
