Mt. Washington girl donates birthday to animal shelter

A 6-year-old girl celebrates her birthday by asking for donations to give to a local animal shelter.

Mt. WASHINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) – A 6-year-old’s love for animals is making a big impact on the Bullitt County Animal Shelter.

Alanna Leslie has two dogs of her own, but it hasn’t stopped her from wanting to share the love with those hoping to find their forever home.

That’s why, for her January birthday, she decided to do something special.

“I like animals and if they don't have homes, I want to make them feel like they have a home,” she explained.

“She said she got so much for Christmas that she didn't need anything for her birthday so she wanted pet supplies and donations for the local animal shelter,” her mother, Kelley Teater said.

The big-hearted 6-year-old got exactly what she wished for and brought a trunk load of dog treats, cat food, toys and more to the animal shelter.

“Our budget is very, very small, and we're always asking for donations so when a 6-year old thinks about the shelter, it makes you really happy,” said the shelter’s director, Angie Greenup.

Alanna played with the cats and dogs for over an hour. She is sending a message to those looking for a new pet: “Don’t shop, adopt.”
