Firefighters in Sevier County are battling a hilltop cabin fire.

Forestry officials were working to contain a fire in the Lake City area Tuesday evening.

The fire was located off Highway 116 near a water tower in mountainous terrain. Drivers could see it off I-75 in parts of Anderson and Campbell County.

Forestry officials were called Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m.

The fire was located in thickets of rhododendron and laurel – both of which cause a lot of smoke when they burn and are noxious to be around.

Trent Bullock, a fireman at the Briceville Volunteer Fire Department, said his unit was dealing from the fire from 1 p.m. to around 8:45.

Bullock said the fire spanned at least 17 acres or more, and that forestry officials had called them off the blaze to handle it.

Nathan Waters, assistant district forester for East Tennessee, said no structures were threatened during the blaze.
