Ole Smoky Moonshine to open tasting room in Nashville, add storage space in Newport

East Tennessee's first officially licensed moonshine makers are expanding.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — It was the first officially licensed moonshine distillery in East Tennessee, and Ole Smoky Moonshine is continuing to grow.

The Gatlinburg-based company, with distilleries and tasting rooms in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, has leased a 30,000-square-foot warehouse located on a 3-acre parcel in Newport to store its finished products.

Adding the storage facility will free up existing warehouse space and help with future expansion goals, according to a press release.

"With the addition of our premium line of whiskeys in 2016, it quickly became apparent that additional storage space was key to our ability to grow successfully and continue to provide our customers with excellent service," said Robert Hall, CEO of Ole Smoky.

Founded in 2010, Ole Smoky offers more than 25 moonshine flavors and 17 types of whiskey that can be bought all over the world. It was also the most visited distillery in the world, welcoming more than four million people in 2018 to its three East Tennessee locations: The Holler & The Barrelhouse in Gatlinburg and The Barn in Pigeon Forge.
