OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — When something is lit on fire time and time again, it tends to need repairs. The Oak Ridge Fire Department's Side-by-Side Fire Sprinkler Demo burn trailer is no different.
Constantly repairing it can be costly, so the Tennessee Valley Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers donated $7,500 to repair and resupply the trailer.
The organization focuses on improving fire protection tools and educating people about how to protect themselves from fires. It is made up of fire officials, fire protection engineers and other professionals.
The trailer is used to demonstrate how fires spread and the importance of having a working sprinkler system to stop them. With the trailer, firefighters give people the chance to see firsthand how quickly flames can engulf a room without a system to stop it. It's an educational tool on the importance of having basic fire safety systems.
