GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Greene Sheriff's Department said it recovered the body of the swimmer who drowned near the Jones Bridge in the Nolichucky River on Saturday afternoon.

Officials found the body very close to where the swimmer was last seen on Sunday afternoon and identified him as 56-year-old Keith D. McNeely.

Deputies responded to a call from a subject who said several people were swimming in the river near the Jones Bridge.

The caller said one of the swimmers got caught in a strong current, went under, and did not resurface.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department and the Greeneville Emergency Rescue Squad responded to the scene and searched for the swimmer, but suspended the search Saturday night due to darkness and bad weather.
