Blount Co. man arrested on counts of kidnapping, assaulting woman

Edward Jackie Morgan, 28, was arrested Friday on four counts of aggravated domestic assault, one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of domestic assault.

Investigators in Louisville arrested a man on Friday for holding a woman captive and beating her repeatedly, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.

According to a post on the Blount County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, their investigation began Friday morning when deputies and investigators responded to the emergency room at an area hospital.

A woman being treated in the emergency room had been severely beaten. Her injuries included black eyes, abrasions on her face, multiple cigarette burns on her body and cut and stab wounds on her arms and legs, the sheriff's office wrote in the post.

The woman said Morgan had also choked her and held her head underwater, according to the post. She said he held her captive until she was able to escape early Friday morning.

The sheriff's office wrote that investigators and deputies responded to Morgan's residence on Mentor Road and arrested him that day.

Morgan is scheduled to appear in Blount County General Sessions Court at 9 a.m. on Aug. 23. He is being held in the Blount County Corrections Facility on bonds totaling $475,000.
