A Georgia man is behind bars following an officer-involved shooting in Kingsport on Monday.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, officers arrested 25-year-old Shannon Michael Carter after he hit an officer and nearly struck two others with his vehicle off Truxton Drive.

According to the TBI investigation, officers with the Kingston Police Department responded to a stolen vehicle call in the Lynn Garden area. When they located the vehicle and pulled it over, the TBI said Carter put it in reverse and hit one of the officers -- pinning him against his patrol car.

The TBI said Carter then began accelerating forward, nearly striking two other officers. The TBI said one of the officers shot at the vehicle as it drove off. No one was struck.

Carter was later arrested in Hawkins County after crashing the vehicle. The Kingsport officer who was hit was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

TBI special agents charged Carter with one count of attempted criminal homicide and two counts of aggravated assault. He's being held at the Kingsport City Jail without bond.
