KCSO: All suspects in bomb threats ID'd or charged

(KNOXVILLE) Authorities say they have identified every person involved in a spree of bomb threats at two Knox County schools over the last few weeks.

School officials made the decision to cancel classes at Hardin Valley Academy on March 24 after a threat was found written on the bathroom wall. A 16-year-old female student was charged in that case.

Farragut High School has been locked down at least four times already this year because of similar threats. Farragut Intermediate, Hardin Valley Academy, and Hardin Valley Elementary have gotten at least one each.

On Thursday, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office reported that they knew who was involved in making the threats at both schools.

They did not release any further information about the number of suspects, who they were, or what charges they may face.

Knox County Board of Education member Karen Carson is holding a meeting to address the recent bomb threats.

The upcoming meeting will be Thursday at Farragut High School in the library from 6-7 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the recent threats at FHS, the school system's response and the community's ability to support a resolution to these concerns.

Original Story:

A 16-year-old girl is now charged with making a bomb threat that closed Hardin Valley Academy last week.

School officials made the decision to cancel classes on Thursday, March 24, after a threat was found written on the bathroom wall. Leaders called the threat "non-specific" last week.

Investigators believed the threat was made by a student, and with the help of a program called "See Something, Say Something," the student who made the threat was identified by other students and school officials.

She was charged with making a bomb threat and vandalism.

A Knox County Schools spokesperson says the student will be “disciplined in accordance with school board policy.” According to the policy, that could mean suspension, expulsion, or an alternative school. She could not be more specific about this case because of privacy rules.

The sheriff's office hopes that someone at Farragut High School will step forward with information to identify who made several threats against that school.

Officials have placed Farragut on lockdown three times so far in 2016 - twice in March and once in February.
