Knoxville police looking for witnesses in hit and run that hurt bicyclist

Knoxville police said the bicyclist suffered non-life threatening injuries after a vehicle hit them and drove off.

The Knoxville Police Department is looking for witnesses to a hit and run crash that hospitalized a bicyclist on Wednesday.

According to police, the person was riding their bicycle east on Parkside Drive in the left turn lane to Lovell Road when their bicycle suddenly jumped the median into oncoming traffic.

Police said a vehicle hit the bicyclist and then drove off.

The bicyclist was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the bicycle itself might have been stuck to the front of the vehicle that hit it. The vehicle was described to be a dark colored sedan and police said it should have damage to the driver's side hood and windshield.

Anyone that witnessed the crash or might have seen someone trying to discard a bicycle in the area are asked to call KPD's hit and run unit at (865) 215-7370. KPD said people can also submit tips to its Facebook page.
