KPD: Victim in North Knoxville shooting died, suspect turned himself in

The suspect, Antonio Gipson, was talked into turning himself in Friday night.

UPDATE: The suspect in a fatal drive-by shooting in North Knoxville has turned himself in, Knoxville Police said.

Investigators determined the shooting was domestic-related. It happened at 12:42 p.m. at the Caprice apartments on Valley View Road.

Police said 25-year-old Alexander Lemar West was shot in the head. He was taken to UT Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Investigators contacted the suspected shooter, 36-year-old Antonio Gipson, and he agreed to turn himself in, police said.

Gipson is charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $750,000 bond.

ORIGINAL STORY: A young man was rushed to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries after he was shot at his North Knoxville apartment on Friday.

According to Knoxville Police, the shooting happened at 12:42 p.m. at the Caprice apartments on Valley View Road. One man, in his 20s, was shot at least once.

The suspect, wearing a fisherman’s style hat and also in his 20's fled in a white or cream-colored Chrysler 300. Police are still looking for him.

Investigators believer there was a confrontation between the two men that led to the shooting, and the victim and the suspect knew each other.
