A woman is dead following a shooting in North Knoxville over the weekend.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, officers responded to 5th Avenue and North Cherry Street after hearing multiple gunshots coming from the area southeast of them around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.
Officers found a female shooting victim at 401 South Cherry Street, saying the original crime scene was 3217 East Fifth Avenue.
Police said the initial investigation revealed an argument between several people escalated, and a suspect or suspects began shooting -- hitting a woman.
The woman, 32-year-old Rekia Kinnebrew, was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment where she died from her injuries Sunday evening after 5:00 p.m., according to KPD.
Investigators said they are following several leads and will release more information as the investigation continues.
