Man wanted out of Montana for taking teen arrested in Roane County

Garrett Poteet was wanted out of Montana for taking a 15-year-old.

ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — On June 5 around 8:08 a.m., Roane County Sheriff's deputies said they responded to a home regarding a tip from the FBI that a man wanted out of Montana for custodial interference was inside with the 15-year-old he was accused of taking.  

The 15-year-old was in NCIC as missing and on the National List for Missing and Exploited Children.

Lt. Kris Mynatt said he was watching the home on Peachtree Lane where 21-year-old Garrett Kennan Poteet was suspected to be and called for other deputies to join him. 

Once on scene, deputies said they approached the home where Poteet's father, Ken Poteet, met them at the door with his hands raised to show he had no weapons. 

Deputies said they asked Ken to have Garrett exit the home. Garrett was then detained.

RCSO said the 15-year-old was also in the home. Deputies placed the teen into protective custody before going to the sheriff's office. 

Dispatch confirmed that Garrett was wanted by the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office in Montana for custodial interference. Dispatch also confirmed full extradition on Garrett, according to RCSO. 

Officials said Garrett was placed under arrest for being a fugitive from justice and then transported to the Roane County Jail for prosecution. 

Back at the sheriff's office, deputies contacted the DCS was contacted and requested that the 15-year-old be turned over to states custody until the parents can make arraignments.
