Runaway girl Tased, arrested after leading Cocke County authorities on chase

Cocke County authorities say a teen runaway led them on a chase in two counties.

A juvenile runaway from Washington County is in custody Wednesday after leading authorities on a two-county chase that ended when she crashed and was Tased, according to the Cocke County Sheriff's Office.

The girl's name has not been released.

Charges against her include: Driving wrong way on a divided highway, failure to exercise due care, failure to maintain lane of travel, false reports, identity theft and reckless endangerment.

Charges also have been filed against the girl's passenger, identified as Regan Stamper. Charges are marijuana and meth possession.

Cocke County deputies stopped a PT Cruiser Wednesday after seeing it had no tag lights. They smelled marijuana as they walked to the vehicle.

The driver gave what proved to be a fictitious name. Authorities asked a passenger identified as Regan Stamper to get out when they saw she had what appeared to be drugs, according to Sheriff Armando Fontes.

The driver then took off in the Cruiser.

Authorities pursued her, and the chase that hit speeds of 90-100 mph went into Greene County on U.S. Highway 321. Greene County deputies laid spikes to stop the car at at least two locations, with the driver swerving and almost hitting them at one point, according to Fontes.

The pursuit went onto state Highway 70 and then U.S. Highway 11E.

A deputy used a maneuver on 11E to force the driver to spin out and stop. The Cruiser stopped in the highway median, and the girl ran. She was caught about 100 yards away.

A deputy used his Taser, hitting her on her right arm and side, according to Fontes.

She was taken into custody.
