New career ministry space will serve students in East Knoxville

From tutoring to filling out job and college applications, an Emerald Youth Foundation program helps students navigate the next steps in their lives.

Mark your calendars! On Thursday, the Emerald Youth Foundation is inviting the community to see their new permanent East Knoxville location for their Calling and Career Ministry.

Inside Overcoming Believers Church and steps away from the Change Center, the area is recently renovated and filled with tables and chairs and access to free WiFi.

The program has been operating for several years now out of a separate location, but will now have a permanent spot to serve East and South Knoxville students.

The purpose is to be a place where youth can come to get free help with school work, ACT prep and tutoring.

They can also be paired up with mentors to help them navigate their next steps in life. The ministry also works to give students their next opportunity after high school. Often taking tours to local colleges and universities as well as shadowing people in the workforce, students get an up-close look at future opportunities.

Organizers emphasize this isn't an after-school program, but a place that students came come and go whenever they need resources and guidance. It is all free.

Thursday, the community can get a tour of the new facility, enjoy food and music by a DJ. There will also be a scavenger hunt for prizes. At 6:30, the skating rink at the Change Center will open for free skating.

OPEN HOUSE:

Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
