A former Knox County Administrator of Elections, Greg Mackay, announced Wednesday this run for Tennessee's State House District 18. He will run as a democrat.
Mackay has been a working as a real estate broker with Coldwell Banker, Wallace and Wallace, Realtors. Before that, he served as the Director of Public Assemblies for the City of Knoxville.
He was appointed to the position of Administrator of Elections in February of 2003 and served in that capacity until April 2011.
Mackay is also a member of the University of Tennessee Political Science Advisory Board.
"I'm excited to represent the people of Tennessee House District 18," Mackay said. “The citizens of Knox County are tired of partisan squabbling and want good people to step up and serve. Someone who can reach across the aisles and work to solve real problems. I’m ready to answer that call.” Mackay cites health care, job growth and improving public education as key priorities.
He led the Knox County Election Commission from 1990 to 1998.
Mackay, graduate of the Webb School of Knoxville, also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Tennessee.
