A new facility at the Scripps Networks tower of the East Tennessee Children's Hospital housed babies for the first time Wednesday morning.
The new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit features 44 private rooms, natural light to help brain growth and a rooftop garden for families to enjoy.
Hospital staff moved 27 babies to the new NICU facility starting around 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Patients and families still utilized the old NICU space on Wednesday, which is a large community-style room.
Siblings are allowed to visit at the new NICU facility, and parents are allowed to stay the night in the same room as their children.
