PPE collection drive is Friday morning at Chilhowee Park's Jacob Building

The city of Knoxville and the county are hosting the drive.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The city of Knoxville and Knox County are hosting a drive Friday morning for personal protective equipment.

It'll be at 9 a.m. at the Jacob Building in Chilhowee Park in East Knoxville.

Volunteers will collect items like N-95 respirators, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes and other commercial-grade medical supplies.

Both city Mayor Indya Kincannon and county Mayor Glenn Jacobs say this drive could help save lives.

"First responders are not backing down from their call to serve," Kincannon said. "And we stand here united knowing we can never repay first responders and their families for their sacrifice during this pandemic, but we can all do our part to help."

"I would personally ask people and encourage them to get out," Jacobs said, "and if you have this equipment, please donate it because there are people who really need it."
