New ER & surgery center also planned for Tennova Health Park in West Knoxville

There are plans for at least four separate medical facilities on the property originally purchased by Tennova in 2015 for a new hospital

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The plans for the proposed Tennova Health Park off Middlebrook Pike in West Knoxville keep growing. It now includes an ambulatory surgery center and an emergency room.

On Wednesday, we learned the state had approved a Certificate of Need for a new 57-bed psychiatric hospital, a partnership between Tennova, UTMC, UHC & Reliant.

A Tennova spokesperson told 10News on Thursday that the state had also approved the Certificate of Need for the Middlebrook Ambulatory Surgery Center.

The company has also applied for a Certificate of Need for a Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) that will serve as a satellite ER of Tennova’s North Knoxville Medical Center.

It will be open 24/7 and like any emergency room, treat patients with illnesses and injuries that require a higher level of care than urgent care facilities. The plans include eight treatment rooms and a medical laboratory, CT, X-ray and ultrasound.

All of this, plus the planned Knoxville Rehabilitation Hospital, will be built on property off Middlebrook Pike and Old Weisgarber Road that will be called the Tennova Health Park.

Tennova originally purchased the 109-acre plot land in 2015 to relocate the Physicians Regional Medical Center but scrapped those plans a few years later in favor of consolidating services at existing facilities.

Tennova Healthcare leaders have scrapped plans to build a brand new hospital in Knoxville and will instead reconfigure services at their existing facilities.
