KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Beating breast cancer starts by finding it early, and that's what one sorority wants to help women do.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is helping 100 Knoxville women stay healthy by offering mammograms at two different locations over the weekend.
On Friday, Alpha Kappa Sorority will be at the Knoxville Convention Center with its Mobile Mammography Unit bus, giving uninsured women free 3D mammograms. Then, on Saturday, they will be at the Kinzel Way Walmart. The bus will operate between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The sorority is asking women who want a mammogram to schedule an appointment online, or by calling (888) 233-6121. Women who do not have insurance, are at least 40 years old, have not had a mammogram in the past year and have no current breast problems are eligible for a mammogram.
The bus travels to locations acorss the U.S. giving screenings for breast cancer. Alpha Kappa Alpha said its goal is to reach 100,000 women and to share information about breast cancer and warning signs of it.
