UT suspends study abroad programs in China, Korea because of coronavirus outbreak

School officials are working with the students affected.

The University of Tennessee's Center for Global Engagement has now suspended spring and summer 2020 education abroad programs to China and Korea amid the coronavirus outbreak.

UT currently has two students in Seoul, which is about 150 miles from the epicenter of the outbreak there. They are working with them to leave South Korea as soon as they complete their academic work.

They had previously canceled study abroad programs in China for the spring, impacting 21 students.

UT said in a statement that only one student was already in China when the decision was made, and they were well away from the Wuhan area.

School officials are working with the students affected.

The CGE has posted a coronavirus advisory for faculty and staff who travel internationally.
