Three people were taken to the hospital for treatment, and one later died of his injuries.

One man has died after a three-vehicle crash on Clinton Highway sent three people to the hospital Wednesday morning, according to Knoxville Police.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Clinton Highway and Callahan Drive.

Three people were taken to the hospital for treatment. A KPD spokesperson said 24-year-old Jefferson Williford, of Powell, later died from his injuries.

Police did not say how the crash happened, but the driver and a passenger of a Mercedes R350 were test-driving the vehicle when the wreck occurred, according to KPD spokesperson Darrell DeBusk. The driver was 69-year-old Steve Ratliff, of Dandridge, and the passenger was 58-year-old Monica Hatfield, of Mascot.

They were both taken to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The second vehicle was a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Williford.

The driver of the third vehicle, a semi-truck, was not injured, DeBusk said. The driver was 62-year-old Larry Breeden, of Knoxville, and he was driving a truck for Estes Express Lines.

Editor's note: Initially, Darrell DeBusk with the Knoxville Police Department said the accident was reported as a fatality. As the investigation continued, the police department said it wasn't deadly. Williford died later Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
