10Listens: Campbell County school bus inspections put the brakes on several buses

Two buses did not run on Wednesday due to issues with inspections, THP officials said.

Knoxville — 10News heard from several people Wednesday who were voicing concerns about Campbell County school buses failing their inspections.

A parent reached out to us after they were told school buses weren't running their typical routes.

10News looked in to it, and found Campbell County Schools actually contracts out to 11 different school bus owners. One of those 11 had two buses that did not run on Wednesday.

The contractor is Cumberland Mountain Bus Lines. Buses 13 and 18 did not run Wednesday, the owner said, because while they were scheduled for inspection last Friday, inspectors were diverted to a bus crash in another county.

But Lieutenant Don Boshears with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said that's not the case.

He told 10News that bus 13 failed inspections last month because of mechanical issues.

For bus number 18, the situation is a bit different, Boshears explained. It's an extended use bus, and an inspector cannot look at it until the fees are paid.

The inspector is, however, set to check both buses tomorrow, Boshears said.

The bus owner also told 10News his company received a loaner bus for at least one of today's afternoon routes.

10News will continue to update this story with any new information we receive.
