2nd Annual Cades Cove Loop Lope registration begins

Friends of the Smokies and the Knoxville Track Club are gearing up for their 2nd annual Cades Cove Loop Lope on November 4. All proceeds benefit the Smoky Mountain National Park.

Friends of the Smokies and the Knoxville Track Club are gearing up for the annual Cades Code Loop Lope race.

The race is set to take place on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 a.m.

"This is the only organized footrace in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park," said Friends of the Smokies President, Jim Hart.

The race costs $75 per person and runners can choose between a 10-mile or 5K course. There is a 750 runner limit for the race and only 100 parking passes will be available for purchase for an additional $35.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for runners and walkers of all ages to experience the beauty of Cades Cove in the fall while the road is closed to vehicles," Hart says.

Friends of the Smokies encourages participants to carpool or use the group transportation option that will be provided.

Roads between the Townsend "Wye" and Loop Road will be closed until the race concludes at noon.

Proceeds from the race will go to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to support its critical park programs and maintenance of the Smokies.

The deadline for runner to register is Oct. 31.
