KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee had to briefly evacuate the Science And Engineering Research Facility for an unknown chemical odor.
University police originally sent out an alert to students and faculty saying a small chemical spill had impacted campus at 1414 Campus Drive and to avoid the immediate area.
UT Media later said that the evacuation was because of an undetermined chemical odor from an unknown source Sunday afternoon.
No one was hurt in the incident. The Knoxville Fire Department responded to investigate the incident and UT reopened the building around 5:30 p.m.
UT Media said investigators later determined there was a malfunctioning machine that was circulating the odor.
