Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary to host concert

Soon, people will be able to do something they've never done before: walk "freely" around Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. The historic space is now serving up food, moonshine and stories of bygone tales.

Wartburg — It was once a home to the worst convicts, but now, everyone will be lining up to get inside.

Starting this weekend, you can tour Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. The historic state penitentiary has been transformed into East Tennessee's newest attraction.

Take a taste of the 'End of the Line' moonshine distilled at Brush Mountain.

Visitors can enjoy a southern-cooked meal at The Warden's Table, try a taste of 'End of the Line' moonshine at the distillery and tasting room, enjoy the scenery of the nearby mountains or take a step inside the notorious prison doors.

While the venue has been in the works for sometime, crews are still making finishing touches to a museum that will house decades-old artifacts, such as home-made tattoo guns, weapons created by the prisoners, old uniforms and a collection of photographs and pictures.

This weekend, the prison will with a lawn concert. Tours begin Aug. 4, 2018.
