Buddy Check 10: Cleaning for a Reason

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Women currently going through chemotherapy have the option to get a little extra help with their housekeeping through a program called "Cleaning for a Reason."

Women who are eligible can go online to the Cleaning for a Reason website and fill out a form. The information will then land in a queue and the women will be notified when a cleaning service is able to come and do the free two-hour cleaning sessions once a month for two months.

Cleaning for a Reason is a national nonprofit, with over 1,200 maid services participating in the program. Two Maids and a Mop is a cleaning service in Knoxville that has been involved with the program for six years.

Morgan Hendrith, a manager at Two Maids and a Mop, says their services are important because chemotherapy takes so much out of a woman.

“When you’re going through treatment, chemo, and things like that, you really lose a lot of your energy,” Hendrith explained. "So just having someone like us to be able to come out and help with everyday tasks really does help out.”

Hendrith believes what they do is so special because everyone is touched by cancer in some way. She says sometimes the crew comes out and the woman receiving the service is thankful to have a listening ear and someone to lean on.

There are a total of three maid services in Knoxville that provide the Cleaning for a Reason services. To get connected with one, all you have to do is go online and fill out the form through the Cleaning for a Reason website.

Every tenth of the month, remind your buddy to do a self-breast exam and do one yourself for Buddy Check 10.
