Clarksville — An area business owner paid off the balances of more than $75,000 in layaway accounts at a Clarksville Walmart over the weekend, an associate at the store reported.

The good deed took place about 1 p.m. at the store at 1680 Fort Campbell Blvd. in Clarksville

Payton McCormick, a Walmart spokesman, said the owner of Hawkins Homes LLC is responsible for the large gift.

The move comes on the heels of Kid Rock paying off the balances of 350 layaway accounts at a Walmart store in Nashville.

The musician gave the 3458 Dickerson Pike store about $81,000 to pay down all of the accounts last week, Tom Meyer, the store's manager, said.

Kid Rock posted on Twitter that he was following director Tyler Perry's lead. Perry posted a video on Twitter, saying he had paid off the layaway balances at two Georgia locations.
