Lenoir City — Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on Highway 11 near Rocky Quarry Road in Loudon County.

The crash happened Friday morning and involved a car and a bicyclist, troopers said.

According to a THP report, 53-year-old David Abney was driving a Chevy Tahoe northbound on Hwy 11. Distracted by his cellphone, he drove outside the lane of travel and hit a cyclist.

That cyclist was identified as 51-year-old Cletus McCurry from Lenoir City. He was not wearing a helmet.

Drug and alcohol tests for both men will be sent to TBI. Criminal charges and citations are currently pending.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information will be available until the on-scene investigation is completed and the next of kin has been notified, according to THP.
