Dollywood's new "Lightning Rod" coaster delayed

(WBIR - Pigeon Forge) When Dollywood opens for the season this weekend, it's newest ride won't quite be ready to roll.

The Lightning Rod will be the world's fastest wooden roller coaster.

Park officials had planned for the ride to be open when the season began, but the manufacturer has asked for a little extra time to "commission the ride." The ride uses new technology never used before on a wooden coaster.

Dollywood officials say progress is being made daily, but no new opening date has been announced at this time.

Once the rollercoaster opens, it will take riders on a 73 mph thrill ride during the 165-foot first drop.
