Dozens visit The Gentle Barn on its last day in East Tennessee

"Because it's only two and a half hours away from Knoxville, we're really hoping that our beautiful community that we've built here will still come and be a part of our family," Lack said.

Sunday was a bittersweet day for the Gentle Barn. Dozens of animal lovers headed to the barn for its last day in West Knox County.

The Gentle Barn has called East Tennessee home for the last three years, continuing its mission of rescuing neglected and abused animals. But now, it's moving to Murfreesboro to be closer to Nashville.

The barn's founder, Ellie Lack, said the new location will allow her to save more animals and reach a larger community. But she hopes to stay in touch with her community here.

"Because it's only two and a half hours away from Knoxville, we're really hoping that our beautiful community that we've built here will still come and be a part of our family," Lack said.

The Gentle Barn is set to open back up to the public on August 26 in Middle Tennessee.
