East Tennessee veteran honored with Quilt of Valor

Quilts of Valor gives handmade quilts to veterans across the country.

More than 60 years after serving his country, William David Martin was recognized for his time in the military.

Martin was stationed in North Korea during in the Korean War back in 1952. His sister-in-law wanted to thank him for his service, so she contacted Quilts of Valor. The organization gave him a hand-sewn quilt to thank him for his service.

"It really means everything to me, for someone to look at you and respect you for what you've done. You don't know how much that makes me proud to be an American," said Martin.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation began in 2003. The organization has awarded quilts to nearly 185,000 veterans.
