Final three applicants to fill upcoming state Supreme Court vacancy sent to Gov. Bill Lee

The final three applicants are Kristi M. Davis, Tom Greenholtz and Dwight E. Tarwater.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Governor's Council for Judicial Appointments met on Wednesday to consider five applicants to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Tennessee Supreme Court.

They narrowed the final list of applicants from five people to three people — all from East Tennessee. Two are from Knoxville and the third is from Chattanooga.

A list of the final applicants is available below.

  • Kristi M. Davis — from Knoxville, licensed in 1998 and works as a judge on the Tennessee Court of Appeals
  • Tom Greenholtz — from Chattanooga, licensed in 2002 and works as a judge on the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals
  • Dwight E. Tarwater — from Knoxville, licensed in 1980 and currently works at a law firm on Gay Street

The three names will be sent to Governor Bill Lee for him to consider. He will then choose an applicant to go through the confirmation process before the Tennessee General Assembly.

The applicants are trying to fill the soon-to-be-vacated seat of Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon Lee. She is also from East Tennessee and announced that she will retire at the end of August 2023.
