The Roane County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that former school board member Everett Massengill was killed Friday night after being struck by lightning.
He had just finished mowing his lawn on Walnut Grove Road in Kingston and was walking to his home when Sheriff Jack Stockton says he was hit by lightning and died immediately.
It happened just before 5 p.m.
