"God woke them up": Family escapes house fire in Heiskell community

Knox County Rural Metro Fire battled back flames that consumed a Knox County home.

KNOX COUNTY - A family safely escaped a large house fire that started in Heiskell early Friday morning.

Rural Metro responds to a large residential fire on Depot Road.

Jeffrey Bagwell with Knox County Rural Metro Fire said crews arrived at 9518 Depot Road shortly after midnight to find flames rising from the home's back porch into the attic.

Crews were able to quickly hook up to a hydrant and extinguish the fire. The family said it was able to escape the fire because "God woke them up" and they saw their home in flames.

Fire crews with Knox County Rural Metro put out a fire on Depot Road.

Fire crews said they were able to contain the fire so it did not spread to the home's first floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
