KNOX COUNTY - A family safely escaped a large house fire that started in Heiskell early Friday morning.
Jeffrey Bagwell with Knox County Rural Metro Fire said crews arrived at 9518 Depot Road shortly after midnight to find flames rising from the home's back porch into the attic.
Crews were able to quickly hook up to a hydrant and extinguish the fire. The family said it was able to escape the fire because "God woke them up" and they saw their home in flames.
Fire crews said they were able to contain the fire so it did not spread to the home's first floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
