Hero pit bull finds forever home in East Tennessee

A pit bull credited with saving a Georgia woman's life has now found his very own forever home.

Earlier this summer, Hero jumped in the middle of a fight between a man and a woman he didn't know. While the woman was saved, Hero was stabbed five times.

Deputies rushed him to the vet and Hero made a miraculous recovery.

Since then he's been with the Fighting for the Bullys Pit Bull Rescue group in Knoxville. When they initially put Hero up for adoption, they received lots of applications but wanted to find a perfect fit.

But fate seemed to bring Hero together with his new family.

Sarah and David Simpson saw Hero at the rescue group's adoption event last Saturday at Petsmart.

The couple had tried to apply to adopt Hero several weeks earlier but they had issues getting the online application to work. Now they had another chance to give him the home he deserved.

“I’m really excited to be able to give someone whose never had a home, a home. And I say someone because dogs to me are more than just dogs, they’re people, they’re family,” Sarah Simpson said.

While the rescue group is happy to see Hero find a forever home, it's bitter sweet.

“We’re bonded already and I tried not to but this boy you can’t help it. He’s very amazing. He’s taken everything in stride,” said Carla Welch, founder of Fighting for the Bullys Pit Bull Rescue.

On Thursday, Hero got to see his new home for the first time and meet his adopted dog siblings.
