It's time to go back to school in East Tennessee!

Are you ready for school to start?

Knox County Schools started back up today, August 8, and only a few counties in East Tennessee are still enjoying the last days of summer. So the 10News Today crew thought we'd take a look at some of the need-to-knows as school starts back up, as well as the things that reminded us of our school days.

Pencils

Are you and yours ready to head back to school? 10News Anchor Russell Biven definitely is, and he even did his homework. 'Get schooled' with Professor Biven in the video below for some fun facts like how many miles a colored pencil can draw.

And all week long on 10News Today we've been taking a look at some of our old awkward school pictures through the years, from 10News Anchor Heather Waliga's wacky picture with a gumball machine to 10News Anchor Abby Ham's classic poses. Pizza

Another classic school experience was the cafeteria food. Do you have a favorite school meal? We thought most people would have some memory, fond or not, of the rectangle pizza that was always served without fail. But would it taste the same as we remember? The morning team gives it a try below.

The Bus

Another shared experience throughout the ages is riding the bus to and from school, whether it was going to an elementary, middle or high school. But how do the bus drivers keep their precious cargo safe? 10News Reporter Yvonne Thomas takes a look at the buses with Bill Gentry of Gentry School Bus Line.

The Books

And getting back in to the swing of things with the school year also means hitting the books. Improving reading proficiency and literacy are a big focus for Tennessee schools this year, particularly in Knox County Schools. Superintendent Bob Thomas explains what he's hoping to achieve this school year.
