KCSO identifies suspect killed in KPD officer-involved shooting in North Knoxville

When Knoxville Police Department officers arrived and approached the suspect’s vehicle on foot, the suspect drove into the direction of the officers, according to KCSO.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knox County Sheriff's Office has released an update on the officer-involved shooting in North Knoxville Saturday morning. 

Around 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 19, a call came into E-911 about a suspicious male, possibly dealing drugs in the parking lot of Tanglewood Apartments on Tillery Road, according to KCSO.

When Knoxville Police Department officers arrived and approached the suspect’s vehicle on foot, the suspect drove into the direction of the officers, according to officials.

KCSO said one of the officers, fearing for their lives, fired into the vehicle striking the suspect. The suspect died as a result of his injuries.

The suspect has been identified as Clinton resident Jason C. Minnick, 30, according to authorities.

The Knox County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy, according to officials.

Once the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has completed the investigation, the file will be turned over to The Knox County Attorney General, Charme Allen, according to KCSO

General Allen’s Office will handle all additional releases regarding the investigation, according to officials.
