Knoxvillians honor the 50th anniversary of the last full day of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life

Guests will listen to an original recording of Dr. King's "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech and listen to the Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir perform songs from the Civil Rights era.

Knoxville — On the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior's last full day on earth before his assassination, Knoxvillians are gathering at Mount Calvary Baptist Church to honor his life and legacy.

Tuesday evening's program, which is called "The Mountaintop Experience" after Dr. King's final speech, is sponsored by the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Commission and the Knoxville Interdenominational Christian Ministerial Alliance.

Guests will listen to an original recording of Dr. King's "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech and listen to the Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir perform songs from the Civil Rights era.

Reverend William Terry Ladd, III, a Knoxville native now serving in Chattanooga will deliver a message on Dr. King.

If you're interested in attending, the program starts at 6 pm and goes until 8:30 pm at Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
