Kroger and Second Harvest collecting food for East TN children

According to Second Harvest Food Bank, one in four children are at risk of hunger in East Tennessee.

Knoxville — Kroger and Second Harvest Food Bank are working to make sure kids in East Tennessee have food to eat all year long.

This month, the organizations are teaming up to host the Food for Kids fundraiser. About 265 schools participate in the program, serving nearly 12,000 children during the school year.

"These donations help make sure students have food to eat over the weekend," Elaine Streno with Second Harvest Food Bank, said. "We provide non-perishable food to thousands of students throughout our 18-county service area."

Want to help out? You can make a cash donation at the Kroger checkout counter or drop food items in the bins at the entrances and exits of the stores.

All East Tennessee Krogers are participating. The fundraiser runs through August 25. For more information, visit secondharvesttn.org
