A man was detained on the campus of William Blount High School after creating a disturbance Tuesday morning.
According to the Blount County Sheriff's Office, the man came into the vocational building around 8:40 a.m., wearing only his underwear and socks, and tried to tear the fire alarm off the wall. Witnesses said the man claimed their were smurfs inside the device.
The 32-year-old man was taken into custody by the School Resource Officer. He was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation.
"The man was never a direct threat to students," according to a press release from the sheriff's office. Parents were notified of the incident via the school messaging system.
