(KNOXVILLE) A Maryville man suffered life-threatening injuries Friday morning when his vehicle flipped and crashed off Pellissippi Parkway.

The Knoxville Police Department identified the driver as Leslie Tatum, 23.

The crash occurred about 10:30 a.m. off westbound Pellissippi east of Northshore Drive, according to KPD. Traffic was rerouted Friday morning while police worked the wreck.

Tatum was speeding in a Buick Rendezvous when the car for some reason went off the left side of the highway. He over-corrected in gravel and lost control, crossing the interstate and flipping several times.

The car rolled over a guard rail, according to KPD, and came to rest upside down. Tatum was thrown from the vehicle because he wasn't wearing a seat belt.

Tatum was being treated at University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was in critical condition, and KPD said he suffered life-threatening injuries.
